Heart's Desire Part 10

   Three days had passed since the encounter with the werewolf, and Lewind had still not awoken. Merlin stayed by her side hoping that she would be all right.
   "It won't happen again. I won't lose someone else..." He muttered, and cradled his head in his hands. Gaius had said that Lewind was fading and her chances of survival were slim. Merlin had been attempting to heal her with magic since then. "This one... it has to be this one," Merlin murmured the healing incantation in the book. His eyes flashed golden.
   Lewind didn't stir.
   Merlin sat back and sighed. "I can't do it..." He whispered.

   Arthur should have been happy. His father was respecting him - for now -, and he had Gwen back. But now Lewind lay dying and Merlin wouldn't stray from her side.
   Lewind had thrown herself infront of the werewolf to save Merlin. Arthur was jealous, but not jealous of the person he would have thought to feel envious of. He was jealous of Lewind. All of Merlin's attention was focused on the girl.
   He knew that the emotion was wrong. She was dying and he envied her! He flopped on his bed and sighed.

   Merlin grunted as he walked down the street, a bundle of produce in hand. Gaius had ordered him to leave, because staying by Lewind's side for so long was unhealthy. Arthur at least understood that Merlin needed time, but not Gaius.
   He entered his home and placed the produce on a table.
   "Hey," a came voice.
   He spun around and saw Lewind behind him. "Lewind!" He gasped and pulled her into a tight, sudden hug. At her yelp of pain he let go sheepishly. "Sorry," he said.
   "It's fine." She smiled.
   "But how... how are you awake?" Merlin asked. "Gaius said you were dying."
   Lewind shrugged. "I've got no idea. But here I am. Awake."
   Merlin grinned.

   Gaius had informed Arthur that Lewind was awake and healing. 'A miracle', he had said. And it was such.
   Arthur was pleased that she was mending. Things would be back to normal soon. Well, as close as Camelot ever came to normal. He stretched and gazed out his window.
